Question 16: Why is the cross hanging at your church empty instead of portraying Christ hanging there like on a crucifix?

Answer: The primary reason we do not show Christ on the cross in our church is because He is no longer there!  True, Jesus Christ died for our sins – but if the story stopped there, none of us would have any hope for eternal salvation.  The real meaning behind the cross is not just Jesus’ death.  It is His death, burial, and resurrection!  The gospel message is that Jesus Christ shed his blood on the cross and ultimately gave His life for ours.  But praise the Lord, He rose again – getting eternal victory over death; that those who believe in Him may also have eternal victory over death.  We do not worship or pray to a dead Saviour, but to a living One!  (Ephesians 1:19-20 “And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,”  Romans 4:25 “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.”  (Indicates the necessity of the resurrection).  Finally, the resurrection also proves that Jesus was indeed the Son of God – Romans 1:4 “And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:”
