Question 2: How can a
person know for sure that they are going to Heaven?
Answer: In I John 5:11-13, the Bible says the following: 11And
this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal
life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life;
and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things
have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that
ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye
may believe on the name of the Son of God.
Furthermore, the wonderfully
familiar verse of John 3:16
tells us: 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Both of these verses use the key word BELIEVE. Belief here is more than a casual or factual
knowledge that Jesus exists for even Satan and his demons believe that Jesus
is real (James 1:19). The belief referred to in these two passages
come from the Hebrew words pisteuo and peitho meaning to
commit myself to Him to fully trust in Him for salvation. It means to believe in Jesus in such a way
that I actually turn away from sin and idols and false religion to receive
Jesus Christ as my ONLY Lord and Saviour.
Another aspect of belief is that of being confident and fully persuaded
that Jesus Christ is who we said He was and that He can and will save you from
your sins. Belief like this eliminates
any basis of works for our salvation because one believes that faith and trust
in Jesus alone is their only hope for salvation. When a person commits their life to Jesus in
this fashion, the Bible tells us that eternal life/Heaven is certain
that
ye may know that ye have eternal life
and
should not perish, but have
everlasting life.
